there are ten reasons you MOST DEFINITELY must visit an apple orchard this fall!
#1. delicious apples freshly picked! there is something so sweet and nostalgic about picking apples. it is so much fun and relaxing at the same time and we always come away with the best memories! we have this photo printed on a large canvas and every time i look at it, i can’t help but awwwwww over it. we took this at evans orchard in kentucky – talk about a family friendly orchard packed full of vintage charm!
#2. use this outing as a chance to also grab some amazing family photos! trust me, you can’t take a bad photo at this place!
#3. refreshing apple cider paired with warm apple cider donuts. need i say more?! oh yes, don’t forget the apple pies!
#4. make apple picking an annual tradition! when i was a little girl, my family would go apple picking during the fall. we would take a nice long drive to upstate new york and have a grand old time laughing and searching for the perfect apples! it makes me so happy to be able to continue making memorable memories like that with my own kiddos! whether you have kids or not, make it YOUR annual tradition!
#5. farm fun galvanized metal slides (evans orchard calls this one “the apple cider slider!” – say that ten times super fast!). kate looks deathly afraid in this photo, but she really loved it! it truly took some massive convincing to pull both kids away from this one!
can you roll your tongue like this? ^^ chris can do it as well, but jack and i can’t. apparently, we are in the minority as about 75% of people on earth have this fascinating ability.
#6. pony rides! these little guys were so soft and sweet and adorable – i could kiss and hug them all day!
some family blooper photos that typically hit the cutting room floor! these made me laugh so much!
#7. barnyard and petting zoo! always a hit with both this mama and the kiddos. of course, they begged to take a few baby chicks home. which then triggered a not so lovely memory: when i was a little girl – i think five – i was walking home from school (in south korea), and there was a man selling baby chicks on the side of the road. the tiny peepings were irresisatable and i ended up buying one with dreams of having a lovely yellow furry pet to peep and follow me around the house! the man put it in a small paper bag, and i excitedly ran all they way home clutching the opening tightly. when i opened the bag, to my utter horror, out slid a motionless dead chick. it had probably suffocated – and to this day the guilt and trauma has not left me.
here, we had to do a “ta-da!!” in front of the barn because, well, it was “KATE’S barnyard” after all! the kids were clearly thrilled that i interrupted their rushing into the barnyard for this mama must have photo op!
#8. jumbo jumper!
#9. ride a john deere around a race track!
it warms my heart so much to see chris playing with our kiddos. he is so patient, always loving on them and thinking of fun games to play and places to go with them. in this next series of photos, check out kate’s death grip on that apple! that apple ain’t goin’ nowhere! haha!
#10. along with your delicious apples, pick up some fun pumpkins and fall mums for your front porch!
if you are in the kentucky area, definitely visit evans orchard! we had such a wonderful time picking apples and sampling their delicious cider donuts and fried apple pies. for lunch we had their grilled hamburgers – so good! the kids had a blast at the farm fun play area and this photo loving mama got plenty of memories captured on film. shortly after this trip, we moved to italy. to remember this fun time together, i had 11 large canvases printed; they are currently happily hanging in our kids’ shared bedroom. i will do a journal entry of their bedroom in the near future, so stay tuned for that! hope you make plans to visit an orchard near you!
