we drove five hours from our apartment to rome. upon arriving at the hotel, we realized that i had forgotten to pack our passports! in my head i must have assumed we did not need them since we were traveling within italy!
it was nine in the evening, we were starving, and now we were faced with the horrible prospect of having to drive those five hours BACK home! thankfully, the very friendly and courteous manager let us stay and we were good to go with our other id cards!
here is half of our luggage. this is what chris would like to travel with.. don’t forget we have two little ones. on the side, where i shot this photo, there are two large rolling suitcases and a stroller!! after all, we were staying for six glorious nights! let’s be realistic here.

how gorgeous is this room??! so much texture and pattern from ceiling to floor! this room made me fall in love with wall paper all over again! i declared then and there that FOR SURE we will be installing this herringbone pattern wood floor in our forever home!
we always travel with one or two of these camera bags: the prince street, brixton, and clifton have been our favorites in cognac or black. they protect our gear so well, yet still feel soft. and they don’t LOOK like typical camera bags, so are ideal for us when we travel!
asides from my camera body and lenses, i always have a ziplock bag of snacks (remember, we have a 4 & a 6 year old and HANGRY is never a good thing) and wipes in each one. and my miir water bottle, of course! i always have to have water on me and one that won’t leak onto my gear! back when the kids were in diapers, i also included extra pacis and diapers. so yes, i’ve used these as camera/diaper bags!
having checked in so late to our hotel, all we wanted to do was find something quick to eat and head to bed! so, we dropped off our bags and headed off for dinner at this quaint little restaurant recommended by the hotel. we ended up ordering this amazing pasta with white clam sauce and sat there a little longer than we meant to just enjoying the food and the happy italian chatter all around us (it was still packed and lively at 11:00pm!).
we are so excited to get lost and explore the streets of rome tomorrow!
