we had such a fun morning visiting the gelato museum today! let me tell you, the wait leading up to this very exciting day was excruciating!! jack and kate had marked our calendar with stars and exclamation marks and were counting down each day with such GLEE!
when we arrived, we were happily greeted by federica! she was incredibly SWEET and FUN! and made the entire experience so happy for all of us! we started the visit with a tour of the (GORGEOUS!) museum where we got to learn all about the history of gelato! then, we moved on to an adjacent shop to have our gelato lesson and, of course, to EAT them!!
if there is a playground, these two cannot resist it!! what a fun place to lounge around (when the weather is warmer) with a cone of gelato or two in hand while the kids play!
GELATO VS. ICE CREAM!
gelato: * whole milk based (lots of vegan options available) * custard base churned at a much slower rate, incorporating less air resulting in a denser and more intense flavor * served at slightly warmer temperature so texture stays silkier and softer * less fat
ice cream: * cream based with egg * custard base churned at high speed to incorporate air and increase its volume * served at fairly cold temperature, giving it a harder texture * high fat content
vintage boxes to transport gelato! what a FUN collection!:
jack was in his element carefully pouring the mixture into the machine! kate was being slightly naughty and sneaked in to grab a little sample! i had to hold back the excited little monkey!!
this was jack's look of PURE GLEE as we were about to go make gelato!:
afterwards, we headed into downtown bologna to have a delicious lunch (of what else! their famous bolognese pasta!!), check out their canals and eat MORE gelato! read about this part of our trip HERE!
if you are in the bologna area, you MUST make a visit to this fabulous museum! it is guaranteed fun for both kids AND adults! to book your gelato experience, click HERE! we booked the GELATO FOR FAMILIES for 1 hour 30 minutes. cost was 10€/adult, 12€/child (bring cash!).
