you guys, you just HAVE to make these adorable pumpkin muffins this fall! they were so easy and fun to put together. and yummy as well!! jack who is not quite three years old yet (two years + ten months!) happily helped his dad, while i just relaxed with tyler and baby kate and took these photos.
here is your simple grocery list! (some affiliate links):
sprinkles – any kind will do! if you want to know the exact ones i used:
orange flakes edible glitter
wilton chocolate jimmies
wilton white sparkling sugar
orange jimmies
wilton white sugar pearl sprinkles
chocolate cake mix
spice cake mix
chocolate frosting
cream cheese frosting
orange gel food coloring – these are my absolute favorite ones!
pretzel rods
kit kat bars
bake the muffins and once cooled, slice off the muffin tops. i must confess, i enjoyed most of the muffin tops…someone had to eat them; not good to waste food you know. 😁
then, place the two muffins together – top to top. this will give you the shape of the pumpkin!
get frosting ready:
* bowl one: chocolate frosting
* bowl two: cream cheese frosting
* bowl three: cream cheese frosting + a few drops of the orange gel food coloring
and that’s pretty much it!! get out some spatulas or butter knives (it will probably be a good idea to keep a separate spatula for each color frosting) and go to town smearing on the frosting onto each “pumpkin”; plop either a pretzel rod or kit kat bar for stem, and embellish with your choice of sprinkles!
if you want to create this drizzled on glazed effect, put some of the frosting in a separate bowl and microwave for 5-10 seconds. heat in 5 second increments until completely melted. cool slightly for a minute and then, carefully pour over each pumpkin.
i just love how each pumpkin has its own personality! messy but charming, don’t you think??! and there’s sweet tyler, always so concerned he won’t get to have any!
here’s just turned four month old baby kate hanging out with mama! i think she felt a little left out. big brother jack stopped by every once in a while to give her some hugs and kisses and a pretzel rod…don’t worry, i took it away!
carefully arranging his masterpiece creations!!:
and he’s back! leaving a bunch of orange glitter all over kate’s hair and forehead! glitter from the pumpkin prop found at the target dollar section!!
by the way, this bouncer is seriously the BEST. we have another “prettier” one for kate, but she just loves her brother’s old one. the gargling sound relaxes her and she really enjoys watching the fish swim by!
poor tyler! he was literally sighing with disappointment underneath the table!! he so much wanted some muffin crumbs to fall off the table, but all that waiting for nothing! he did get some doggy biscuits so don’t feel too bad! 😭
hope you have fun making these! i will be definitely having a chocolate pumpkin with a mug of hot green tea this evening!
