today, we had the BEST day celebrating our dearest kit kat turning FOUR years old! how is this possible that she is four already??! it seems like it was just yesterday she was a newborn snuggled on my chest deep asleep after a happy feeding. her sweet newborn smell, my feeling of utter contentment, ah i get sappy just thinking about it…
kate has been a HUGH fan of peppa pig for the past year now! she has been walking around everywhere – grocery store, doctor’s office, playground – talking like peppa with her little raspy british acccent!! seriously the CUTEST thing! muddy puddles make her smile and any time it rains she gets excited because she tells us rain will make muddy puddles all over the world!
we spent a fabulous day at the louisville zoo (will post photos from zoo separately!) visiting penguins, riding merry-go-rounds and real camels, splashing at their splash water park, and ending the day with a family picnic – peppa pig style – back at home! we kept it pretty simple. the only thing i had the hardest time with was making that peppa pig house out of cereal boxes! it came out all wonky and something terrible, but the kids loved it and were thrilled to play with it! haha!
i used a melon baller to make these watermelon balls. it was oddly addicting making them and i couldn’t stop! our kids love watermelon so this made the perfect snack! so fun and pretty too! we had mini hawaiian roll ham and cheese sandwiches and washed them down with pink grapefruit juice – i popped in some frozen watermelon balls to keep it cold as it was a HOT day today! by the way, shopping sources are located at the bottom of this post in case you want to put together a peppa pig picnic too!
this birthday cake was SUPER simple. i baked a regular cake and frosted all around with chocolate frosting. then on top added a ton more chocolate frosting to make it look like mud. got some kit kat chocolate bars and surrounded the cake all around, securing with this adorable teal pom pom ball fringe ribbon. and lastly, the muddy peppa pig family got to jump in with glee!

piggy snout cups! just used a black sharpie to make the nostrils – we couldn’t stop giggling every time someone took a drink!
fresh chocolate pudding “dirt” with gummy worms! i layered the pudding with chocolate cake. you can make these a day ahead if planning for a big party!
yellow rain boots – main centerpiece for sure! and a picnic is not complete without this classic red + white check tablecloth! i love this one as it’s cotton and can be thrown in the washing machine! LOVE LOVE the quality of it too!
when i style a table, i like to repeat patterns, colors and textures. for example, i used gold glitter wrapping paper to match the gold number 4 balloon as well as the gold birthday candles. teal pom pom ribbon paired with teal napkins (and even teal sippy cup!). i used two types of galvanized METAL containers and four types of GLASS containers. it just makes everything look more cohesive and aesthetically pleasing.
these kiddos just melt this mama’s heart…
time to blow out the candles!! this is probably their FAVORITE part!:
this round metal tray is from our pottery barn galvanized metal three tiered stand. the stand comes apart pretty easily and is one of my favorite items to use when decorating!
jumping in muddy puddles! they must’ve jumped on them a thousand times! i made these out of brown felt fabric left over from jack’s star wars lego birthday party.
and here’s our dear GOLDIE deer. the kids said we had to include him in the festivities!
we love you so much, kate! i love how you are always sharing your favorite things with everyone. i love how you run in to our bedroom for morning hugs and kisses – although some times you give us quite a scare as you stand next to our bed patiently and quietly waiting for us to wake up! i love how when someone or something is hurt you immediately feel their pain and run to go get a bandaid. i love how you dance freely without a care in the world as soon as you hear a beat. i love how you quietly appreciate all the little joys in life. i love watching you daydream. my heart bursts with so much love for you. you have made your dad and i the happiest these past four years and we will always treasure every moment.
happy HAPPY birthday, kitty cat kate!

Haha! Thanks – coming from someone who lives in the same country as Peppa, it’s an honor! 😆
what a great idea for a party! You have thought about every single details. I love the jars with “mud and worms”, they are so realistic. Your daughter looks so happy in all the photos.
Thanks, Joanna. Good to hear from you again! I have missed your blog posts!! Shortly after this birthday, we moved to Italy. I can’t believe we made it happen – she was so happy!
Too cute! What an incredible party! I hope Kate had a wonderful birthday. My kids used to love Peppa Pig when they were small.
I must confess: I watch Peppa Pig episodes on YouTube even when kids are not home! In Italy, near Verona, there is an amusement park called Gardaland. They recently opened up a Peppa Pig Land with Peppa’s house and everything. I think I was more excited to go in her house than the kids there!
Oh my goodness your daughter is absolutely adorable. I love this idea for a party and all the colors are so fun!
Thanks, Krysten! You are so sweet!
Oh my gosh so cute! I’m definitely doing this for my daughter’s birthday! She loves Peppa too!
I sure had a lot of fun planning this one! Hope you too!
Happy 4th birthday Kate! Your set up of her party is so adorable! And your peppa house turned out so perfect! Party decor goals for sure! And muddy puddles are the best!
