bellagio! the PEARL of lake como. when you visit here, be sure to schedule in a leisurely stroll through the charming cobblestoned streets of bellagio. i mean look at this – so PRETTY and quaint! it is a small town packed full of charm – you will want to take a photo in every little nook and cranny!
(this post may contain some affiliate links. see my full disclosure here!)
we left jack’s hat in our car (parked a little out of the way from the town center) so we stopped by this sweet little hat shop and bought him another one. the lady there was so so sweet to the kids!
all that strolling around made us hungry! we looked around for a place to eat (so many options!) and we settled on this place! i thought it looked so inviting and the little alleyway just beckoned us to have a seat. plus the waiter was so friendly! by the way, that is the entrance to our lovely hotel back there – i’ll have a separate post with my reviews + photos soon.
as we sat waiting for our food, we admired all the copper touches and explained to the kids that copper turns pale green over time as it reacts with oxygen in the air (oxidation). this beautiful green color (which happens to be my favorite shade of green) is the natural shade of patina that forms as a layer over the copper surface. this patina prevents further oxidation, making copper one of the most long-lasting materials! the kids were very awed to learn that the statue of liberty (as well as many of the famous rooftops here in italy) was once a shiny copper!
all smiles and ready to dig in!! nothing better than sitting down to some good food in the fresh open air! the kids tell us their favorite parts about our getaways are staying at hotels (they love sleeping in new beds!) and eating and trying new food together. i agree! the rest is icing on the cake!!
this is the view from our hotel entrance. so picturesque and inviting, right?:
we picked up these cute little wooden toys at the toy shop (the one that sells the hand painted wooden trays) and kate wanted to make sure her new little friend was included in our photo!
here is the inside of the toy shop! that ceiling!!!! how amazing are all these wooden pieces??! i wanted to buy them all. those sailboats back there were just gorgeous. as were all the hand carved olive wood spoons, bowls, pestle and mortars, cutting boards, salt and pepper mills, etc. my dream shop i tell you.
settling down on these lovely steps on via giuseppe garibaldi with some refreshing gelato – perfect dessert on a hot day!
we plan on returning because one weekend was just not enough time to take in all of lake como! we stayed at this hotel (HIGHLY recommend) in bellagio for this trip; for our next, we plan on staying at varenna – possibly villa cipressi! here is our lake como bucket list!:
- (done!) BELLAGIO: stroll around the pretty streets of bellagio, view the basilica of san giacomo, shop, have gelatos.
- (done!) BELLAGIO: dine at la punta and take in the scenic views at la punta spartivento!
- BELLAGIO: visit pescallo, an old fishing village + go kayaking!
- BELLAGIO: visit villa serbelloni’s park and gardens – a luxury hotel built in the 15th century!
- (done!) LENNO: take a ferry and visit villa del balbianello.
- VARENNA: spend a day strolling around this pretty little postcard village! stroll along the romantic promenade, see church of san giorgio, villa monastero, villa cipressi, castello de vezio (an ancient medieval fortress that i just know jack + kate would LOVE).
wearing: liberty print popover shirt, loving this similar madewell shirt too, madewell jeans, platform wedges, soho disco bag that goes with EVERYTHING, my favorite everyday gorjana rings (love these too!), ONA prince street messenger camera bag.
kate’s dress, her rose gold vans (we just got these gold silver ones for back to school + silver back pack for kate + matching pencil case + glow in the dark back pack for jack), jack’s shirt (i always get multiple colors of this cotton polo – so comfy and easy to wash!), sunglasses, backpacks.
thank you so MUCH for stopping by! if you have a web site/instagram page as well, please comment down below – i would love to check it out and say hello!

Kate & Jack always look so happy 😀 I love the fact they are so well-cultured and enjoy various foods. Great parenting skills there Tamalyn 🙌🏻 I’ve screenshot your bucket list for places for me to visit when I stay in Lake Maggiore next month.
Jaz x
For some odd reason, they love having their photos taken! 😆 This was not always the case, so I’m very grateful. I can’t WAIT to see your photos from Lake Maggiore! Your travel photos always get me so excited – even if I can’t go I feel like I’ve been there – your description + photos are so good and spot on! 👍
This layout + photos are exquisite!! Wonderfull site! Very appealing
Thank you!! Hope you have a lovely Sunday!!
That is what I call great family time. You guys look like you had so much fun. I would be all smiles too. Great hat that you got.
Haha! For once, I didn’t have a MUST DO travel itinerary – well, asides from Villa Balbianello to get my Star Wars fix – we got to relax a lot on this little getaway.
I have to say, your blog is awesome. I love it. Super love the fonts. They’re my favorite
The photos are just stunning. I enjoyed reading your post. Everything here’s perfect.
Thank you, Wendy! This font always reminds me of reading the New York Times! Growing up, this paper was the first thing I saw at the breakfast table! My dad’s face was always buried in it. But he would always put it down when he saw me and hand me my favorite sections. We would both read while we munched on my mom’s amazing French toasts and scrambled eggs!
amazing pictures quality you have in this posts i am completely stoned! Amazing article you have written.
Thank you so much, Paulo!
I love your blog- so cute and stylish. Great photos as well. Looks like you all had a remarkable time.
Thanks, Katrina! Love love yours too! SO motivating!
Italy is well known for the rustic themed restaurants. They offer a distinct taste of culture and slow paced living. That’s why people all over the world seek the serene environment this country has.
I agree! I’m very grateful to be living here temporarily!!
OMG your kids are so cute! I didn’t go to Lake Como when I went to Italy. It looks beautiful. I went to all the typical cities: Rome, Milan, Venice and Florence. I hear the Almafi Coast is beautiful as well. Need to make my way back soon to hit all the other spots I missed!
May from http://www.lavieenmay.com
Don’t you feel like every single corner of Italy MUST be visited?? It’s a small country packed FULL of charm. We are headed to Positano soon and I’m so excited to see the Amalfi Coast!! I’m LOVING your Italy blogs on your site! You must come back soon! If you go back to Milan, you must must go to Navigli area (https://www.google.it/search?q=navigli+milano&rlz=1C5CHFA_enIT781IT781&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiQ_4abmOrcAhXksaQKHXaTD8MQ_AUICygC&biw=1177&bih=965) as well as the Brera district! And of course, climb the roof of the Duomo!
Can i know what type of a camera is being used here? the pictures are damn cool. Looks super sharp
Thanks! I used the Nikon D7200 and these Nikon lenses 14-24mm f/2.8g, 85mm f1.4g, 35mm f1.4g. I say invest in the lenses and don’t worry about the camera body too much! If I had to travel with just one lens it would be the 35mm. Great for street photography. Take care!
Wow! Your photos really looks great!! I’m inspired by yours to photograph well for our travel blog. Glad you had fun!
Thanks, Chuck! Would love to visit your blog!
This trip looks amazing. Plus the children look so happy. Makes me want to travel and see the world.
Just love the joy and fulfillment on all your faces, always a wonderful thing to take some time out for this kind of stuff, awaiting your review of the hotel.
I’m blown away by all these pictures. I’m so jealous I wasn’t there. I really liked the green moss between the cobble stones.
Thanks so much, Jean! I love that green moss between the cobble stones too! SO pretty!
It is my dream to visit and tour the whole Italy top to bottom and for sure Lake Como and Amalfi Coast is included in the list. What a great way to be inspired! Amazing.
There is just something so beautiful and old world about it all. I love all of the different places you had to visit. I love the look of the streets and walkways. And the food looked absolutely fabulous. You must have had the best time.
Thank you!! The old streets and walkways were definitely my favorite part! We must have walked up and down them a thousand times – for no reason at all – just that they were super charming! The store owners probably were shaking their heads! 😂
I love the overall look of your blog! And your photos are so nice, it felt like I was there with you on your stroll.
You have a such an eye. I love all your photos. They’re all amazing:) I wonder what filter did you used.
