i love ferry rides in general, but when the weather is hot, i appreciate it even more! the refreshing breeze just soothes my soul and rejuvenates my mind!!
in the above photo, i am standing at the pier in bellagio waiting for our ferry! across from me, i can see the two villas we wanted to visit (see our map below!). we decided to focus on villa del balbianello this time and save villa carlotta for our next visit. but if we really wanted, we probably could have seen both. with kids we try to stay open and flexible.
i think my first ever ferry ride was one on a school trip to liberty island to see the statue of liberty. i will never forget how exciting it was being on the water and seeing the majestic green lady (did you know that lady liberty was almost GOLD?? so glad they kept the copper plan so that it is now a lovely shade of patina green) get bigger and bigger as we approached!! so now, every time i get on a ferry, my childish enthusiasm comes alive!
“pontile” is pier in italian! the ferry to lenno took off from pontile 1! the prettiest view ever don’t you think?? and look! there’s one of the ferry boats behind jack and kate! great timing, right?!
pretty scenery after pretty scenery as we cruised by…
these baby ducklings were soooo adorable! they were so downy and curious. mama duck hovered close by making sure they stayed together.
this is the place where you purchase the ferry tickets. the piers are right next to it! here is a link to check out timetables:
i wonder what jack was thinking about. he was very quiet and reflective. both kids just LOVED the relaxing 25 minute ride.
here is a map of our weekend itinerary. i adore maps. when i was little, my father and i would pore over our large map book together and study where we would travel to and how to get there, etc. that love for maps and travel have stayed with me and i hope to pass that love on to our kiddos!

i just love how relaxing it is here. no rush, no long lines waiting to see or eat. just beauty all around to recharge your soul… and good food in every corner – for your belly!
this is the pier at lenno (above photo). it has such a charming vintage feel about it!! i could do an entire photoshoot here!
this last photo above was our first close up peek of villa del balbianello as the ferry pulled into pier at lenno. that amazing tree shaped like an umbrella can instantly be spotted – and during our weekend in lake como, we never saw another tree like it!
time to go have some lunch at lido di lenno! see you there on our next weekend at lake como post!

Thank you, Erica! Hope you have a wonderful time when you go!
When my family and I lived in the 1000 islands area of NY we would take a ferry out to Boldt Castle regularly. It was one of our favorite things to do. To be able to have that same relaxing experience in an epic locale like lake como sounds like a dream come true!
Boldt castle is STUNNING! It must be so gorgeous in the fall set against the backdrop of autumn’s foliage… I want to go visit when we are next in NY to visit our family + friends! And hey – any chance to go on the ferry again!!
Oh wow, this is such a stunning area. I would LOVE to go one day. I hope! Italy is such a magical place.
ALL of Italy is truly magical. Before I came here I thought for sure most of the area was hyped up for tourism, but NO. It truly truly is beautiful in an untouched genuine way – every square inch.

I love the water, being from NYC, the last 14 years of which were on Manhattan. I guess that’s why I specialize in river and ocean cruisetours. I will definitely add Lake Como to my personal bucket list and recommend it to my clients, too.
