there's something about decorating for easter that just makes me feel so happy and hopeful! walking through the warm spring rain surrounded by flowers in full bloom - ahhh! best feeling ever!
i set up our acrylic paints and brushes to decorate our white plastic eggs + paper mâché eggs in my favorite room in our house: our sunroom! this little room is so darling - it has six large windows on two walls that let plenty of sunshine in and a pair of pretty white french doors on the third wall that connects to our living room!
i just love spending time here. this is where i edit my photos and do crafts + school work with my kids. we also have our family game night here (our historic home is small, so i'm so glad we were able to fit our white table + metal chairs in this happy space)! when we move, i know i will dearly miss this room.
to put this centerpiece together i used my hobnail glasses, french square drinking bottles, florals, lambs ear branches, preserved moss and galvanized metal three tier stand. these eggs have been painted with pretty flowers! it was so fun playing around with the pieces to get the look i wanted! i used to watch my mom doing things like this while smiling and humming hymns and i definitely got my love for designing from her! and haha!! kate's reaction at seeing it was too precious!
for my entry way, i also have a bunch of these wooden eggs, which i leave unpainted, nestled in my favorite large white ceramic footed bowl for a more simple natural look!
the smile that says: really, mom? do you HAVE to ask for a photo RIGHT now while i'm trying to create a masterpiece here?
jack wanted camouflage eggs, so we mixed three shades of green and he went to town on his eggs. kate said she wanted camouflage eggs too, but picked her own colors - purple, pink, yellow! they both created absolute masterpieces!!! if you are looking for washable acrylic paint we LOVE the kid made modern ones too!
any time i see paint like this, i think of bob ross. do you guys know him too? i grew up watching him paint "happy little trees" on television and i remember falling in love with art because of him!
here are the paper mâché eggs we painted white. and this adorable aluminum paint tray! don't forget the metallic paints to add accents and to paint the golden eggs!! after the paper mâché eggs finished drying, we painted flower petals on them. i penciled in petals for the kids to fill in and the look of pure concentration on their faces was just too cute! after the petals dried, we added accents like little dots in the center. i thought they came out absolutely lovely - will share more photos of them in our easter egg hunting post!
My kids would love to do something like this. They are all about painting. We’d do this outside though, because I’d picture the paint all over the house. replycancel
You are a riot, Amber! Yes, probably a good idea so we can save your sanity!! Surprisingly, we did not get any paint on their clothes. I didn’t put aprons on them cause I was too lazy to drag them out. SO, I’d say MAYBE they are less messy than dyeing???! replycancel
We started this tradition when Jack was two – and oh my goodness looking back at those first pics are just priceless. ….and makes me want to have more kids! 😆😆 Excited for you to cook with your baby boy when he is older!replycancel

How beautiful those Easter eggs are. You actually did it! Decorating Easter eggs with kids can get tough especially if they seem to paint everything; but you did it so well.
Happy Easter!replycancel
